Prilično sam siguran da bi svaki vlasnik bilo koje franšize ( osim možda Patsa ) prodao dupe đavolu za mogućnost da dva puta u deset godina uzme SB a ostalih osam godina da ima 2-14 skor u regularnom delu.Mnogo pre od mogućnosti da u tom periodu svake godine učestvuje u PO, a da SB ne vidi nikad.

Nešto kao što bi, kad bi mogli da biraju, apsolutno svi teniseri odabrali da osvoje dva GS u deset godina a da u ostalim ispadnu u prvom kolu, mnogo pre nego da u svakom uđu u QF ili SF a da trofeja nikad ne vide.

Yes, the NFL Players Association agreed since the very first Collective Bargaining Agreement that the Commissioner will have final say over punishment imposed on players for infractions against the integrity of the game. But the Commissioner still must be independent and unbiased in exercising his authority over the process.

If the Commissioner is being pressured by one or more owners to resolve the case a certain way, his ability to be independent and unbiased becomes undermined. As PFT recently reported, multiple influential owners have been trying to influence Roger Goodell’s decision in the Tom Brady appeal. Via Tom Curran of CSNNE.com, ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio has attached two specific (and predictable) names to this effort.

“I know who they are and I’m gonna name ‘em right now,” Paolantonio told the Mighty 1090 in San Diego on Friday. “Jim Irsay of the Colts. Steve Bisciotti of the Ravens and others in the AFC who believe the Patriots have gotten away with murder for years and have not been publicly punished properly.”

If a truly independent party were handling Brady’s appeal, any effort by an owner to lobby the arbitrator (one way or the other) would be highly irregular — and it would result in the arbitrator informing the parties immediately of an inappropriate attempt to influence the outcome of the independent decision.

Earlier this year, the Missouri Supreme Court found that the Commissioner can’t be independent in arbitration cases involving legal claims filed against individual teams because he works for the people who own those teams. That same dynamic applies in Brady’s case.

Goodell works for the owners, and some of the owners reportedly are trying to influence him. Which should make the extent to which Irsay, Bisciotti, or any other owners have lobbied Goodell to reach a certain decision in the Brady appeal a central issue in the looming litigation challenging the ultimate outcome of Brady’s appeal.

Although the NFLPA has agreed to allow Goodell to resolve these appeals, the union and the players are entitled to a truly independent decision. If one or more owners aren’t letting Goodell make a truly independent decision, the decision becomes vulnerable to being scuttled by a a truly independent person who wears black not as a fashion statement.

NFL referees have been given detailed instructions for closely inspecting footballs in response to Deflategate.

In what former NFL head of officiating Mike Pereira terms “an overreaction” to the controversy, the NFL told officials this weekend that they will have to change the way they go about getting footballs ready for play.

Under the new rules, the referee will designate two members of his staff to inspect every football submitted by each team to make sure they’re inflated to between 12.5 PSI and 13.5 PSI. Any footballs that fall outside the prescribed specifications will be inflated or deflated to 13.0 PSI. The officials will also number each football submitted and keep a log of the level of inflation of each football.

The league is also giving additional responsibilities to the kicking ball coordinator and an onsite league security representative to make sure no one tampers with the game balls. At some randomly selected games, the league will also test the PSI levels of footballs at halftime and after the game.

That last part is important: Some defenders of the Patriots and Tom Brady have suggested that footballs could become partially deflated over the course of a game, and that the Patriots’ footballs in the AFC Championship Game were measured at under 12.5 PSI not because the Patriots deflated them but because they were measured after they had already been used in the game. Now the NFL’s halftime and post-game testing will determine to what extend footballs lose their pressure over the course of an NFL game.

It would really be something if these new procedures reveal that footballs routinely lose some air pressure during games, and that the whole Deflategate “scandal” was the result of nothing more than footballs losing a little air because they were used in a game.

Any effort by owners to pressure, influence, or lobby Commissioner Roger Goodell on the Tom Brady appeal undermines Goodell’s independence. Which in turn strengthens Brady’s case in court.

The looming lawsuit (absent a zero-game suspension for Brady) will entail an argument that Goodell wasn’t truly impartial. What better way to prove his “evident partiality” (lawyers) than to demonstrate the true contours of the mine field through which Goodell has been tiptoeing?

And what better way to do that than to march all 32 owners into court for sworn testimony regarding their communications with Goodell and the league office regarding the Brady suspension and appeal?

Before billionaires who routinely resisting submitting to any authority other than their own would submit to the authority of a judge, they’ll fight that requirement. Aggressively.

They’ll also aggressively fight any efforts to get their phone records, emails, and texts messages (irony), which will demonstrate the extent to which they communicated with Goodell or other key league employees about the Brady case.

The fact that Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti issued a strong statement on Sunday insisting that he has not “pressured” Goodell suggests that Bisciotti realizes how this could unfold for him and his partners. The fact that Bisciotti’s statement didn’t flatly deny any and all communications with Goodell or efforts to influence him without exerting pressure suggests that delving thoroughly into the efforts of all owners to make their views known to Goodell, with or without “pressure,” will prove that Goodell’s decision was based at least in part on keeping his primary constituents happy.

The possibility that owners may have to testify also could result in a new wave of pressure, influence, lobbying, etc. on Goodell. The new message won’t be, “Throw the book at Brady.” It may instead be, “Make this all go away. Now.”
