be played in the 49ers' new stadium in
February 2016. It will be the first Super
Bowl played in the Bay Area since 1985.
Super Bowl LI will be Houston's first
Super Bowl since the Patriots defeated
the Panthers in 2004. Shut out of the
bidding was Miami, which failed to secure
public funding for apparently necessary
upgrades to Sun Life Stadium. Next year's
Super Bowl will be played in New York/
New Jersey's MetLife Stadium —
outdoors.


Raiders agreed to terms with DB Charles
Woodson on a one-year, $1.8 million
contract.
The deal includes a $700,000 signing
bonus, and is worth a "maximum" of $4.3
million, likely through hard-to-achieve
incentives. Woodson is returning to the
team that made him the No. 4 pick of the
1998 draft. Woodson spent the first eight
years of his career in Oakland before
defecting to Green Bay. He's chosen the
Raiders over the Broncos despite the fact
that Denver is on the cusp of the Super
Bowl, and Oakland is one of the worst
teams in the league. However Woodson
spins it, money was almost certainly the
determining factor. Going on 37,
Woodson has lost multiple steps the past
few seasons, but will still likely be a
better option than Usama Young opposite
Tyvon Branch at safety. It's possible he
won't be a 1,000-snap player, instead
playing somewhere in the neighborhood
of 500-750.

Да се надовежем на причу о Денверу. Уз Нову Енглеску су дефинитивно највећи фаворити у АФЦ-у ове године. Иза њих је после Хјустон. За Денвер је питање како ће надокнадити одлазак Dumervil-а. Драфтовали су Quanterus Smith-a у 4. рунди, у питању је дечко са огромним потенцијалом али је питање шта може да уради у руки сезони. Питање је и secondary. Rodgers-Cromartie je рупетина, машина за жуте заставице. Bailey на заласку каријере, Moore се за сада показао као танак. Chris Harris je ту тренутно најбољи играч.

One of the greatest Chicago Bears of all-time will not put on another team's uniform. Brian Urlacher announced his retirement Wednesday on Twitter.

"After spending a lot of time this spring thinking about my NFL future, I have made a decision to retire," he wrote in a statement. "Although I could continue playing, I'm not sure I would bring a level of performance or passion that's up to my standards. When considering this, along with the fact that that I could retire after a 13 year career wearing only one jersey for such a storied franchise, my decision became pretty clear."

Urlacher's foot speed rapidly diminished in 2012 because of a knee injury and he struggled to find interested suitors in free agency this offseason after he couldn't come to terms with the Bears. Urlacher was only one season removed from a resurgent 2011 campaign, but the end often comes quickly in the NFL, even for eight-time Pro Bowlers.

Urlacher entered the league as an immediate star, racking up eight sacks as the 2000 Defensive Rookie of the Year. He won the 2005 AP Defensive Player of the Year, and was the key player during a dominant stretch for former Bears coach Lovie Smith's defense. Urlacher made four first-team All Pro teams, a sign of a player at the very top of the game.

"I'm proud to say I gave all of you everything I had every time I took the field. I will miss the game, but I leave it with no regrets," Urlacher said.

It's somehow appropriate to see Urlacher retire in the same year as Ray Lewis. Even though they had different styles, Urlacher was in many ways the defining middle linebacker in the NFC for a decade, with Lewis in the AFC. While Lewis is surely much higher on the "all-time greats" list, Urlacher helped redefine the game as the classic "Tampa 2" middle linebacker. A former college safety, Urlacher's ability to rack up tackles while covering tight ends deep down the field was breathtaking.

Lewis and Urlacher's careers diverged in many ways, especially at the end, but they should land in Canton together five years from now.
