The Minnesota Vikings announced on Tuesday that they've signed Za'Darius Smith to a three-year contract.

The deal has a base pay of $42 million and could be worth up to $47 million with incentives.

Smith was released by the Green Bay Packers last week, and soon found work with the Ravens — or so we thought. A day after it was reported that the Ravens were signing Smith to a four-year, $35 million contract that could have been worth up to $50 million with incentives, he backed out of the deal.

The Vikings selected 11 players in the 2021 NFL draft. Most of those players were cut on Tuesday, failing to make the 53-man roster a year after they were drafted.

That’s an ugly look for the Vikings’ prior regime of general manager Rick Spielman and coach Mike Zimmer, who were fired after the 2021 season. The new regime of general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and Kevin O’Connell clearly doesn’t think much of that draft class.

Here’s a look at the Vikings’ 2021 draft class, and each player’s status heading into what should be his second NFL season:

Tuesday represented a massacre of the 2021 draft class, at the hands of team leadership that wants to go in a very different direction in 2022.

The Vikings turned the page on the Mike Zimmer era on Sunday with a rousing 23-7 win over the Packers, the team that has dominated the division for a very long time.

The difference arose in large part from an offense that goes on the offensive.

“I’ve never been part of an offense that just was attacking, and attacking, and attacking,” receiver Adam Thielen said after the game, via Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com. “It didn’t matter the score. It didn’t matter the situation. We were attacking. It felt good.”

Thielen’s only coach in Minnesota was Zimmer. Which mean the offense was never attacking under the team’s former head coach.

The Kevin O’Connell-led Vikings generated 395 yards of offense, with an average gain of 6.5 yards per play. Receiver Justin Jefferson caught 11 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns.

The Vikings visit the Eagles next Monday night, in a rematch of the biggest game of the Zimmer tenure — which resulted in a blowout win for the Eagles and a berth in the Super Bowl.

Zar oni nisu i prosle godine poginuli u prvom kolu?

Ako Jefferson bude nastavio ovako igrati tokom cele sezone, moze biti jedan od ozbiljnijih kandidata za MVP-ja.

Problem sa WR kao kandidatom za MVP je taj što, ako je WR ozbiljan MVP kandidat, onda je njegov QB još ozbiljniji.
