Jay Cutler - QB - Free Agent
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports free agent Jay Cutler was scheduled to visit the Jets this week.
He "was scheduled" because the Jets gave Josh McCown $6 million guaranteed on a one-year deal presumably to be their starter. With New York out of the running, the Texans would be an interesting landing spot if they miss out on Tony Romo, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Houston is not an option. With the music nearing its coda, Cutler is in danger of being left without a chair.
Josh McCown - QB - Jets
Jets signed QB Josh McCown, formerly of the Browns, to a one-year, $6-million contract.
The $6 million is fully guaranteed, and he can earn an additional $7 million in playtime and team-based incentives. Set to turn 38 in July, McCown is the definition of a stopgap option who the Jets will hope can give them competent quarterback play while they revamp their quarterback room. Unfortunately, McCown seems to get hurt every time he touches the field at this point in his career, making it very unlikely he lasts a full season. Unless they are content to watch Christian Hackenberg or Bryce Petty start multiple games, the Jets still have some work to do.
