Osi Umenyiora - DL - Giants

Giants DE Osi Umenyiora's contract will officially void on Thursday, making him an unrestricted free agent.
He is not expected back with the Giants, who are making a concerted effort to get younger and cheaper. Umenyiora's departure isn't going on the books as a release, so he can't sign a contract until the start of the new league year on March 12. Umenyiora is far from the force he once was, but will certainly be looking for a multi-year deal. We expect him to get one.

Brian Schaefering - DL - Cowboys

ESPN Dallas expects the Cowboys to re-sign exclusive rights free agent DT Brian Schaefering.
Schaefering played just 45 snaps after arriving in December, but has 40 games of NFL experience. He'd be cheap, experienced line depth for a team that's up against the salary cap.

Chris Johnson - RB - Titans

According to Profootballtalk, Chris Johnson met with Titans coach Mike Munchak on Thursday, and there was "no mention" of his contract.
Per a source with knowledge of the exchange, it's being interpreted as a "clear sign" the Titans will keep CJ?K. Johnson's contract has been an issue this week because $9 million of his $10 million 2013 salary becomes guaranteed on Saturday. Johnson has four seasons and $35 million remaining on his deal. He could be a more serious candidate for release or a massive restructure next offseason.

Lions

GM Martin Mayhew is "optimistic" LT Jeff Backus and free agent K Jason Hanson will be back with the Lions in 2013.
The Lions' left tackle since 2001, Backus is coming off a middling season, but is signed for an affordable $2.75 million. The Lions have a readymade replacement in 2011 first-round pick Riley Reiff, but would have troublingly little proven depth at tackle if Backus is released. Hanson was as solid as ever during his age-42 campaign, drilling 32-of-36 field-goal attempts.

Louis Delmas - DB - Lions

Lions GM Martin Mayhew says he has "no plans" to use the franchise tag this offseason.
The Lions aren't hurting for candidates, but FS Louis Delmas is coming off his second straight injury-plagued season, while DE Cliff Avril disappointed playing under the tag in 2012. LBs Justin Durant and DeAndre Levy don't have the résumés of players typically associated with the franchise tag. Mayhew has pledged to shake up the roster, and a big part of that will likely be letting some established starters walk in free agency. Re-signing Delmas figures to be a priority, however.

Titus Young - WR - Rams

Lions GM Martin Mathew says he didn't try to trade Titus Young before waiving him because he had "no trade value."
Mathew's claim is hardly surprising, and backed up by the fact that the Rams were the only team to place a waiver claim on the mercurial third-year pro. Mayhew says he doesn't have any regrets about selecting Young in the second round of the 2011 draft despite his well-documented character issues in college. "We made a big investment in him, didn't work out, move on." Rams coach Jeff Fisher has a history of getting the most out of malcontents, but Young is going to be his biggest challenge yet.

Gregg Williams - DT - Titans

Gregg Williams has been reinstated by the NFL and has joined the Titans as a defensive assistant.
The last loose end from the Saints' Bountygate saga gets tied up. Williams, whose chilling speech to his players ahead of a playoff game against the 49ers served as a smoking gun of sorts, will serve as a "senior assistant for defense." He'll work with coordinator Jerry Gray in what we expect to be an aggressive, blitz-heavy 4-3 scheme. Williams and head coach Mike Munchak go back more than 20 years.

Louis Vasquez - G - Chargers

Pro scouts around the NFL reportedly "love" free agent RG Louis Vasquez.
ESPN AFC West blogger Bill Williamson considered 25-year-old Vasquez the Chargers' "best offensive lineman" in 2012, and Pro Football Focus graded him as a top-13 overall guard. Vasquez, at 6'5/335, is a particularly effective pass blocker. He could be viewed as a better fit for left guard on the open market.

Joe Flacco - QB - Ravens

Owner Steve Bisciotti said the Ravens offered Joe Flacco a "top-5 contract" last summer.
Flacco truly is a gambling man. He risked plenty by declining the deal and betting on himself -- and then went out and had one of the great playoff runs in NFL history. Now Flacco's agent is asking for his client to be the highest paid quarterback in the league.

New Chiefs coach Andy Reid says he's still "evaluating" Matt Cassel.
"I’m going to just let that play out," Reid said when asked about Cassel's future. "We’re too early in the process to know that." We suppose stranger things have happened than the Chiefs deciding no QB is worth the No. 1 pick, and no free agent or trade candidate represents a big enough upgrade on Cassel to make a move. However, the odds remain extremely high Cassel has played his final snap in Kansas City. Cassel has turned the ball over 30 times in his past 18 games.
