QB Tate Forcier won't transfer to Miami Hurricanes, source says - ESPN

Former Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier, who was expected to transfer to Miami, will not join the Hurricanes because of personal reasons, a source close to the situation told ESPN.com on Friday.

As of Jan. 1, 2012, Miami will have two scholarship quarterbacks on its roster in Stephen Morris and incoming transfer Ryan Williams, who played last season at Memphis and will have to sit out this fall unless the NCAA grants a waiver.

Forcier's decision was a family one and was made before Williams transferred, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad.

Miami announced in February that Forcier had signed an aid agreement and planned to transfer, but he has not been on campus since he first visited the program.

As a freshman in 2009, Forcier started all 12 games for the Wolverines and completed 165 of 281 passes for 2,050 yards and 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

This past season, Forcier appeared in eight games as a backup to Denard Robinson and completed 54 of 84 passes for 597 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions. He was declared academically ineligible for Michigan's trip to the Gator Bowl.

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher, who grew up only a few miles from PFT headquarters, was asked today about the prospect of playing college games on Sunday, if the work stoppage results in a vacancy on the day that NFL games routinely are played.

Per JoeBucsFan.com, Fisher said the prospect of playing on Saturdays is “scary,” primarily because players typically use Sundays to recover from Saturday games.

“Not sure if you have seen what these guys go through after a game, but they need a day off,” Fisher said.

He’s got a good point, but that hasn’t stopped the NCAA from scheduling games on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. College football is more about money than academic expedience, and there would be plenty of money to be earned by playing Saturday games on Sunday, if Sunday becomes available

Amid talk that college football will fill the looming void on Sunday afternoons, Sunday nights, and Monday nights, we recently noticed some chatter on Twitter (I can’t recall from whom) that the NFL could retaliate in the future by playing games on Saturdays.

To the extent that it’s a fairly obvious reaction to the notion of college football encroaching on the NFL’s turf, we decided it was worth a quick post. Especially since no one is riding a bull tonight.

The NFL’s antitrust exemption for broadcast purposes hinges on pro football games not being televised on Friday nights, Saturdays, or Saturday nights from early September through early December. It was part of the quid pro quo for the NFL’s ability to jointly market TV rights, forcing networks to buy the ability to televise the bad teams’ games along with the good teams’ games.

So the NFL can’t respond in kind. Of course, that doesn’t stop the NFL from retaliating against any network that televises college football games when NFL games would have been played. If Playmakers provided the league office under Paul Tagliabue with an incentive to not-so-subtly threaten ESPN’s role as a broadcast partner, it wouldn’t be out of the question for the league to hold a grudge if alternative programming during the lockout includes alternative football.

Yesterday, it was reported that the Big Ten was considering “bridging the gap” between the full cost of living for student-athletes and the payout of an athletic scholarship. League officials said players could potentially receive roughly $3,000 annually in additional monetary benefits.

Whether it’s a good idea in the long run or not, conferences are talking about it. Rather than ramble on about the issue again, here are the opinions/statements of a handful of conference commissioners (courtesy ESPN.com):

SEC commissioner Mike Slive:

“I have long thought that we should revisit the current limitations on athletic scholarships by expanding to the full cost of attendance. This is a student-welfare issue that deserves full consideration at both the conference and national level. I look forward to that discussion.”

Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe:

“This is a topic that BCS commissioners discussed at recent meetings and one that we agreed to review with our respective member institutions at spring conference meetings, which I intend to do at the upcoming annual Big 12 meetings.”

ACC commissioner John Swofford:

“I think it’s something that deserves our full consideration and discussion. It would be consistent with a number of other scholarships that are on our campuses across the country.”

Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott:

“I fully support studying the impact of increasing the grant in aid package for student-athletes. We have not had any discussion on earmarking funds for this purpose.”

It’s not surprising that commissioners from BCS conferences are supportive of — or, at least, open to discussing — the prospect of paying players more money. Most of them currently have the funds from television rights to do it. However, one Non-BCS commish also had an interesting take:

Conference USA commissioner Britton Banowsky:

“Universities justify spending tens of millions of dollars on coaches’ compensation, with a seemingly insatiable appetite for more growth. At the same time, a small fraction of that amount is spent on all scholarships for all student-athletes. Unless the student-athletes in the revenue-producing sports get more of the pie, the model will eventually break down. It seems it is only a matter of time.”

It’s certainly counterintuitive that the commissioner of a Non-BCS conference would see and/or advocate the benefit in the additional payouts to players given the costs burdened with it. A primary concern of increasing the payments to players is that only a select few will be able to financially shoulder those costs.

Discussions like these tend to present more problems than they solve, but the only way to get over those hurdles is to discuss them.

Nazalost, odluka je da se vise ne prave igrice za PC sto se tice americkih sportova, da bi se pospesila prodaja konzola.

Nista onda, cepa se i dalje madden 08, samo jos novi roster da se ubaci. Steta sto nema neka novija igrica NCAA footballa za pc.

Quinton Coples investigated by NCAA

North Carolina defensive end Quinton Coples is reportedly being investigated by the NCAA for his actions at a post-draft party hosted by Marvin Austin and Robert Quinn, according to ESPN.

Coples is an early candidate to be the No. 1 overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft (assuming the team at No. 1 doesn’t need a quarterback).

According to the ESPN report: “The NCAA wants to know how Coples paid for his travel to the party, who paid for his admission and his hotel, and if he accepted any free food or drink.”

Hopefully there’s something more to the story that isn’t being reported, because if the NCAA investigates every player who travels to another city and attends a party it’s going to be along summer. At some point the NCAA needs to just let college kids be college kids and stop monitoring their every move.

Freshman RB Mike Blakely transfers to Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. -- Former Florida running back Mike Blakely has transferred to Auburn.

Auburn spokesman Kirk Sampson confirmed Thursday that Blakely has arrived for the summer term.

Blakely enrolled at Florida in January but missed spring drills because of a shoulder injury, then was granted his release by new Gators coach Will Muschamp.

The 5-foot-9, 195-pounder will have to sit out the upcoming season but will have four years of eligibility remaining.

Blakely was rated the No. 6 running back prospect and 40th-best overall by Rivals.com.

He ran for 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns as a senior at Manatee High in Bradenton, Fla., last fall.
