"It was kind of just a matter of time with this foot," Olsen told Max Henson of the Panthers' official site. "[We] got as much out of it as we could have."

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Panthers are expected to retain head coach Ron Rivera in 2019.
The Panthers have fallen on hard times, dropping six straight after beginning the year 6-2. Despite their collapse, the Panthers are expected to stay the course with Rivera, who recently took over play-calling duties from defensive coordinator Eric Washington. New owner David Tepper plans to be "patient" with Rivera and understands that Cam Newton's shoulder injury has played a role in the team's recent struggles. Rivera has held the top job in Carolina since 2011.

Cam Newton underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right (throwing) shoulder Thursday.

The team made the announcement in a press release. No timeline for his recovery was given. In terms of what procedures Newton could have undergone, it's minor. It's the second offseason in three years Newton has had his shoulder operated on. Owner David Tepper had previously left open the possibility that Newton could sit out 2019, but it looks like he should be healthy well in advance of training camp. Newton turns 30 in May. His shoulder was a debilitating issue down the stretch in 2018.

Cam Newton he's going celibate for the whole month of March

Cam Newton likes to give himself challenges during the offseason. He believes that accepting and passing these challenges makes him stronger. Already this offseason he has accepted and passed two such challenges: he did not place any bets on anything during the month of January, and he went vegan for the entire month of February.
"I wanted it to be challenging," Newton replied. "I'm coming off of shoulder surgery. I'm looking for -- that's including no Wi-Fi. So, no Wi-Fi. No thigh-thigh."

As for why: "It makes my mind stronger," he said. "So when the season comes around, I say if I did those things, I'm mentally stronger."

I guess we'll find out if it worked come September.

Panthers signed WR Chris Hogan to a one-year contract.

Hogan had trouble breaking through the Patriots' undermanned receiver corps in 2018 to catch just 35 passes but turned them into 532 years (15.2 YPR) and three scores. Hogan is a solid deep threat with a 6'1/210 frame but also turns 31 this year. That deep threat viability would seem to mesh well with Cam Newton's big arm, but D.J. Moore and probably even Curtis Samuel are higher in the pecking order for the Panthers. AAF standout Rashad Ross is also in the mix here. Hogan's fantasy outlook isn't great.

Jonathan Stewart retired after 11 seasons in the NFL.

Stewart signed a one-day contract to retire with the Panthers, the team which made him the 13th overall pick back in 2008 and was his home for 10 of 11 seasons. Early in his career, Stewart formed a dynamic partnership with DeAngelo Williams, and the pair helped carry the team to a 12-4 record in 2008. Stewart finishes his career with the most rushing yards in Panthers history.
