CBS Sports' Will Brinson -- while stating that it's "a massive longshot" -- projected the Chargers trading Philip Rivers to move up to the No. 2 and select Oregon QB Marcus Mariota.
As you know, we rarely blurb conjecture of this sort -- and it isn't even really conjecture, as Brinson is mostly having fun with his assignment -- but we pass this along as a connect-the-dots item to keep an eye on as the draft nears. This is what we know: The Chargers have heavily scouted this year's QB class, Rivers grew up not far from Nashville, the Titans desperately need an immediately solution at QB and Tennessee hasn't come across as sold on Mariota as we would have expected them to be. For the record, Brinson's proposed trade was Rivers and the No. 17 pick for the No. 2 pick and Tennessee's second-round pick. Based on Brinson's mock draft, that would be Rivers and LSU OT La'El Collins for Mariota and a second rounder. If we're within 40 days of the draft -- and we are, reader, we are -- you know it's crazy season.

The Browns have informed NFL Films and HBO they don't want to be featured on Hard Knocks.

The Browns wisely don't want to expose Johnny Manziel and their wayward program to further public scrutiny. "When we decided not to volunteer for 'Hard Knocks,' we discussed everything that was involved with it," said coach Mike Pettine, who was with the Jets when they did the show in 2010. "[Manziel] is certainly something we needed to consider." The Browns could still be forced to do the series, but NFL Films prefers that a team volunteers.

ESPN's Sal Paolantonio confirms the Browns offered the Rams a first-round pick for Sam Bradford.
Paolantonio got the word directly from Rams GM Les Snead. Per Snead, the Bills were also interested. With multiple confirmations of the Browns offering the Rams a first-rounder, it stands to reason they were the mystery team that offered the Eagles a first-round pick just one day after they acquired Bradford. Although the Browns are unlikely to find an upgrade on Josh McCown and Johnny Manziel at this point, they'll certainly keep looking.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports it would take "multiple first-round picks" for the Chargers to trade Philip Rivers.
Rapsheet's report is via ""several sources with the Chargers." Rapsheet emphasizes that the team doesn't want to trade Rivers, but that it hasn't explicitly said he won't be dealt. The Bolts recently approached Rivers about an extension, but were rebuffed. Rivers is on public record as wanting to play out his deal, and says there's "nothing" that could change his mind. Multiple first-rounders would indeed be the going rate for a quarterback of Rivers' ilk, even at age 33.

Chip Kelly says he tried to trade for Bradford without losing Foles

Posted by Michael David Smith on March 26, 2015, 11:25 AM EDT

Rams coach Jeff Fisher has said that his team only agreed to trade Sam Bradford because Nick Foles was the player the Eagles’ offered, and that the Rams thought Foles could be their franchise quarterback. That meshes with what Chip Kelly revealed at this week’s league meeting: He tried to get the Rams to trade Bradford for draft picks, and agreed to give up Foles only when Foles was what the Rams demanded.

“It went on for a couple weeks,” Kelly said, via the News Journal. “We were trying to keep Nick if we could. It was just at the last second, they wanted players. We were trying to get it done with draft picks, but it didn’t work out that way.”

Presumably, if the Rams had agreed to give up Bradford for draft picks, the Eagles would have kept Foles and let Mark Sanchez walk in free agency. Instead, the Eagles re-signed Sanchez and will have him compete with Bradford for the starting quarterback job.

Despite speculation that Bradford could be turned into a bargaining chip for a trade up in the draft to select Marcus Mariota, everything Kelly says indicates that he thinks highly of Bradford and believes Bradford can run his offense effectively. Bradford is a player Kelly wanted badly — so badly that he gave up Foles and draft picks to acquire him.

"I am not the only gay person in the NFL. I'm just saying there is a lot of us. I respect the players that did reach out to me and had the courage to tell me that they were also gay, but they do not have the same courage as I do to come out before I even played a down in the NFL." - Michael Sam

Rodney Harrison: Geno Smith, Jets might win 5 games

Count Rodney Harrison as one non-believer in the Jets following their aggressive offseason of spending.

The former Patriots safety and current NBC analyst believes the Jets will remain an AFC East doormat in 2015 if they stick with Geno Smith as their quarterback.

"The Jets are, all of a sudden, on a high thinking they're going to win a championship," Harrison said on NBC Sports Radio, per ESPN. "You're not going to win a championship, you're not even going to make the playoffs, because you don't have a quarterback. If you go into the season and you're expecting Geno Smith to improve, it's not going to happen. He might get a little better, but when times get tough, when adversity hits, guess what he's going to do? He's going to fold just like the last couple years."

I really wish Harrison wouldn't beat around the bush. So do you like Geno Smith or not?

"I don't believe in Geno Smith. I think this is a huge mistake. Hopefully in this draft, they try to address this quarterback situation, because if they go into the season with Geno Smith they might win five or six games."

Harrison added that he agreed with Bill Belichick's decision not to re-sign Darrelle Revis, who left New England to sign a lucrative deal with the Jets.

"Bill, he's not going to sell the farm for Darrelle Revis, because as good as Darrelle is, you know in a year or two maybe Darrelle is not going to be quite the same player he was this past season for the New England Patriots."

Harrison has been known to carry the Patriots' water in his role as an analyst, but his points on Smith are far from baseless. Smith has been wildly inconsistent in two years as a starter, a reality that makes the Jets a boom-or-bust proposition if he keeps the job.

The Browns are not expected to lose a draft pick for Text-gate.
Browns GM Ray Farmer admitted that he attempted to text playcalls to the sidelines during 2014 games. Somehow, the Browns are getting off easy as punishment will be levied mostly against the GM himself and not the team. Farmer's first year as an NFL GM was nothing short of a train wreck, with this texting scandal the cherry on top. Expect the franchise to be fined heavily as well.

The NFL is expected to take a 2016 draft pick away from the Falcons for piping in crowd noise to the Georgia Dome during games.
The Falcons allegedly pumped in noise through the speakers when the opposing offense was huddling up. "I think what we've done in 2013 and 2014 was wrong," owner Arthur Blank said in February. "Anything that affects the competitive balance and fairness on the field, we're opposed to." It's not yet known what pick the Falcons will be stripped of. The NFL is also expected to suspend team president Rich McKay from the league's competition committee and fine the franchise heavily.

Browns GM Ray Farmer has been suspended four games without pay for illegal gameday texting.
After an investigation, the NFL has deemed that Farmer acted as a lone gunman when he
attempted to text playcalls to the sidelines during 2014 games. So they haven't lost a draft pick, but have been fined $250,000 and will have to go at it without Farmrer for the first month of 2015. He won't even be allowed in the team facility, although that may be a good thing. In Farmer's first year as an NFL GM, he blew two first-round draft picks (Johnny Manziel, Justin Gilbert), chased talented OC Kyle Shanahan away and assembled bottom-barrel offensive talent.
