Undrafted free agents typically face an uphill climb to make the team, but guys pull it off every year. Indeed, one of the all-time great Broncos was undrafted — receiver Rod Smith.

After the 2014 draft ended, the defending Super Bowl champions signed an undrafted rookie free agent whose father won a couple of Super Bowl rings during his NFL career.

Joining the Seahawks is Jackson Jeffcoat. The former Texas defensive end is the son of former Cowboys and Bills defensive end Jim Jeffcoat, who won championships with Dallas in 1992 and 1993.

Despite speculation that Jackson Jeffcoat would be moved to linebacker at the next level, the Seahawks list him as a defensive end, at least for now.

Also joining the Seahawks via the undrafted free-agency route were USC safety Dion Bailey, Montana linebacker Brock Coyle, Central Arkansas tight end Chase Dixon, Penn State tackle Garry Gilliam, Oklahoma guard Bronson Irwin, South Carolina cornerback Jimmy LeGree, Washington quarterback Keith Price, and Eastern Washington defensive tackle Andru Pulu.

Though the Steelers didn’t select a quarterback in the 2014 NFL Draft, they did add one afterwards.

The club announced Saturday it had reached agreements with 10 undrafted free agents, including Cincinnati quarterback Brendon Kay.

Kay (6-4, 228) completed 262-of-395 passes for 3,302 yards with 22 TDs and 12 interceptions in 2013 for the Bearcats.

Bruce Gradkowski and Landry Jones are the Steelers’ primary backups to starter Ben Roethlisberger.

The Steelers also agreed with these undrafted free agents: Stanford defensive back Devon Carrington, Youngstown State offensive lineman Chris Elkins, Wisconsin defensive end Ethan Hemer, UAB offensive tackle Kaycee Ike, Shepherd linebacker Howard Jones, Stanford defensive end Josh Mauro, Louisville defensive tackle Roy Philon, East Carolina offensive guard Will Simmons and Missouri tight end Eric Waters.

The Steelers will hold their rookie minicamp from Friday, May 16 through Sunday, May 18.
