The Lions have reportedly signed a key defensive reserve through 2016.
According to Sean Yuille of PrideofDetroit.com, the Lions have signed safety Don Carey to a three-year contract extension with base salaries of $730,000 in 2014, $745,000 in 2015 and $760,000 in 2016.
According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Carey also received a signing bonus of $800,000 in the contract, which was signed in December.
Carey, 26, notched 30 tackles in 14 games for Detroit this season. He started three games as an extra defensive back, and he was one of the Lions’ primary special-teams players.
A sixth-round pick of the Browns in 2009, Carey has started 19 regular-season games in his NFL career.
