CBS Sports reports the Chargers are "hoping to retain" free agent DE Vaughn Martin, but are facing competition from the Eagles, Lions, Saints and Patriots.
It's Martin's first mention of free agency, though he did have talks with the Chargers early last week. There's always a strong chance it's agent-driven when a player is connected to 4-5 teams at once, but it is time for bargain-hunting clubs to begin getting more active. Martin has combined for 27 starts the past two seasons, but made just two sacks. He's a run stopper.

Ed Reed and the Houston Texans signed a three-year contract with a maximum value of $15 million, the team announced Friday.

Chiefs are seeking a second-round pick in this year's draft as well as another pick in 2014 in a trade for franchise OT Branden Albert.

While the Jets may not be “actively” shopping cornerback Darrelle Revis, the team that has been most closely connected to Revis is shopping one of its own cornerbacks.

Per a league source, the Buccaneers are shopping cornerback Eric Wright.

Wright’s contract pays him a $7.75 million base salary for 2013, an amount that no longer is guaranteed due to his four-game suspension in 2012.

The contract Wright signed last year in free agency after leaving the Lions covers four more seasons, with base salaries of $7.25 million in 2014, $7.25 million in 2015, and $7.5 million in 2016.

Given the current cornerback market, Wright surely would have to agree to a dramatically reduced deal in order to facilitate a trade. Which could mean that he’ll refuse, making it difficult if not impossible to trade him.

In the end, the Bucs may have to just cut him — which then would allow him to sign the best deal he could find on the open market.

Osi Umenyiora - DL - Giants

Free agent DE Osi Umenyiora expressed his desire to play for the Falcons.
"The only thing I can think of that would be better than being able to win in New York would be to be able to win here in Atlanta," Umenyiora said. "We’ll see how that plays out. Hopefully, it works out in a positive direction." The 31-year-old makes his offseason home in Atlanta, and he visited the team on Wednesday. ESPN's Adam Schefter previously reported that the Falcons would like to get a deal done with Umenyiora this weekend.

Michael Crabtree - WR - 49ers

CSN Bay Area doesn't believe a long-term extension for Michael Crabtree is among the 49ers' top priorities.
Crabtree is signed through 2014, so there's no rush. Beat writer Matt Maiocco thinks new deals for Colin Kaepernick, OLB Aldon Smith, LG Mike Iupati, and RT Anthony Davis are higher priorities than Crabtree. All five players are scheduled to hit free agency in 2015. If Crabtree continues to play like he did with Kaepernick last season, San Francisco's thinking could change.
